Industrial collaborations
The SC group maintains a large industrial relation network, benefiting from Toulouse leading position as the centre of the European aerospace industry.
For several years, the SC group members have been involved in several partnerships with the major industrial companies through various research contracts and Ph.D. thesis fundings.
Among these partners, one may cite the French Space Agency (CNES), Airbus, Thales Alenia Space, Thales Avionics, Thales Systèmes Aéroportés, Alcatel-Lucent, Rockwell-Collins, Motorola, Schlumberger, Freescale, Collecte Localisation Satellites (CLS), Noveltis, Saint-Jude Medical...
In particular, the creation by Prof. Francis Castanié of the cooperative laboratory
TeSA, gathering industrial and academic partners around topics related to space and aeronautical telecommunications, illustrates the successfull concretization of these industrial collaborations.
Besides, other partnerships have been established through other modalities such as, for instance, European contracts and consortiums:
- NEWCOM and NEWCOM++ (2005-2007, 2008-2010): projects funded by the 6th and 7th Framework Programs. NEWCOM and NEWCOM++ are the Networks of Excellence in Wireless COMmunications.
-
U-R-Safe (2002-2004): project funded by the 5th Framework Program of the IST (Information Societies Technologies). U-R-SAFE (Universal Remote Signal Acquisition For hEalth) was a 2-year project, which aims to bring the medical procedures and related technological background to allow convalescent, elderly, patients and disabled in Europe to be treated and monitored at home and therefore contribute for:
- enhancing the quality of life (including mobility) without compromising the security of patient,
- mitigating the growing costs of health.
In this project, SC group ensured the coordination of the project and all tasks related to ECG signal processing: denoising of the signals, detection and classification of pathologies, compression and restoration of the missing samples after transmission.
- RadarNet (1999-2003): project funded by the 5th Framework Program of the IST (Information Societies Technologies). The goal of the RadarNet project was to develop a new type of low cost radar network for automotive applications and to prepare the realization of first applications: urban collision avoidance, collision warning, stop & go functionality, airbag pre-crash warning, parking aid. In this project, SC group is the partner charged to develop the algorithms necessary to the detection and the follow-up of targets and to establish them on a DSP.
- NEWTEST (1996-1999): project funded by the 4th Framework Program of European Community through ACTS. The aim of this project was to propose new neural network based methods for adaptive equalisation of the satellite UMTS transmission channel. The use of roof top adaptive antennas was also studied within the frame of the project. Objectives were to evaluate the performance issues related to the use of neural networks equalisation techniques and to compare with classical equalisation implementations. The technical feasability of the implementation of neural network based equalisers was studied, especially at UMTS terminal level.
